Statement Against Anti-Black Police Violence and Racism

By Annick Press Date: June 04, 2020

The protests in the United States, Canada, and across the globe have brought critical issues into sharp focus for us at Annick Press. We denounce police violence in all forms and acknowledge the long history of state-sanctioned brutality in our countries. We support the efforts and the message of Black Lives Matter. We stand in solidarity with all those who continue to experience racism, injustice, violence, and inequality.

Publishing is not exempt from these issues, and there is so much more work to do to become actively anti-racist. We want to contribute toward a world in which diversity and inclusion are represented on the page, and where this representation is reflected in both creators themselves and the industry that supports them. This is far from the current reality.

It is important that we engage in a critical analysis of ourselves as a press—we will be transparent about our next steps, and we welcome feedback. Please feel free to contact us at info@annickpress.com. We are also grateful to all those who have guided us and continue to increase our knowledge on inclusion and anti-racism work.

We are committed to listening, learning, and doing this work.
