Gary Crew

Gary Crew was born and grew up in Brisbane, Australia. He now lives in Maleny, a village set in the beautiful, temperate Blackall Range rain forest overlooking Queensland's fabulous Sunshine Coast surfing beaches. He was attracted to reading and drawing while very ill as a child. His favorite author was Enid Blyton, but he read his parents' non-fiction books too, and he maintains an interest in non-fiction that has affected his own writing.

After leaving school, Gary became a design draftsman, then re-educated himself, taking his master's degree in literature. He became a teacher in 1974 and went on to become head of English at various high schools in Brisbane.

Gary began writing in 1985. Because of his teaching background and his own teenage children, he became interested in writing young adult fiction and has published many novels in that genre.

Gary's main interest is researching non-fiction events and turning them into fictional stories. He also writes crime and science-fiction short stories for both youth and adult audiences. His award-winning books are published in translation all over the world.

Gary is married with three grown children—Rachel, Sarah, and Joel. His main hobbies are reading, and walking his four dogs (Ferris, Bueller, Wendy, and Alice). Gary is a lecturer in creative writing at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
