Cornelia Li

Cornelia was born in China and spent her early years in the southern metropolis of Shenzhen. At eleven, she moved with her family to Toronto where she has studied and lived ever since. She grew up buried in books, her favorites being an odd contrast between Andersen’s fairy tales and illustrated scientific encyclopedias. Eager to tell her own stories, she started to draw before she could write and has used visual language as a means of communication ever since. She started working as a freelance illustrator after graduating in 2014 with a BFA in Illustration. She worked predominantly in the editorial realm (for clients including The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Scientific American, and many more) until 2017 when she made a break illustrating children’s books. Her work is created using a combination of traditional and digital media.
